Congratulations
son i’ve made this journey twice
both times it was nice
strangers know your name
and for one day play your game
but you cannot stop the pain
son i’ve made this journey twice
people throwing rice
and uncles drinking loud
preaching to a crowd
but you cannot stop the pain
you get for playing your game
son i’ve made this journey twice
both times it was nice, nice
strangers know your name
and for one day play your game
congratulations
once in a lifetime, twice in a lifetime

About
The original recording of this was on a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder, and was pretty okay. In fact, I attempted many times to recreate the spirit of the original to no avail. I think this, however, is relatively definitive (although my brother-in-law still owes me a guitar solo). It lays out paternal advice about marriage from one who was married twice: Once, to a woman who died and left two young children; and once to a woman whom he divorced.
