Write For the Masses
Your mind is swinging like a wrecking ball
all you gotta do is pick up the pieces
You gotta word and then you got the gall
You take a sip and the story just releases
You try and leave out all of the places
No mention of a time nor man
Peel the husk back from your fancy phrases
To display your big commercial plan
When you write for the masses
When you write for the masses
Your ball is swinging like a wrecking mind
And all you gotta do is piece up the pickens
you temper all the sense you find
Then You double down on all the funky diction
You proclaim yourself the hero by rights
So it’s nobody’s fault
Count your money and recount your plight
Command precision wrecking ball
When you write for the masses
When you write for the masses
You try and leave out all of the places
No mention of a time nor man
Peel the husk back from your fancy phrases
To display your big commercial plan
When you write for the masses
When you write for the masses

About
I joined the music classified service, Taxi, in 2013. This service, for $300, gave me 1 year’s access to classified ads for TV shows looking for music. Here’s the thing: They would never actually say what the song should be about, nor what the show nor advertised product was. They only gave guidelines indicating that the song should sound like someone else’s song, and advised against putting specifics in the lyrics. (Plus, it actually cost money to submit songs, on top of the $300.)
This song represents what I learned. You can keep your $300 (unless you’re okay creating this way, of course).
